David T. Thuma is a shareholder of the Albuquerque law firm of Thuma & Walker, P.C. Mr. Thuma practices primarily in the areas of commercial law, commercial litigation, commercial transactions, and commercial bankruptcy. He earned his J.D. from Duke University 1979, with high honors; and his B.S. in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 1980, with honors. Thomas D. Walker  is a shareholder in the Albuquerque law firm of Thuma & Walker, P.C., where he concentrates his practice in the areas of bankruptcy law, commercial litigation and real estate law. He regularly represents businesses, individuals, committees and trustees in bankruptcy cases, and represents parties in business litigation and transactions, foreclosure actions, workout negotiations, real estate and lease negotiations and other commercial matters. Mr. Walker speaks frequently on bankruptcy and other business litigation topics. He received an undergraduate degree in economics from Tulane University in 1981, attended the Institute of Political and Economic Studies in London, England, and received his J.D. degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1985. He has been a member of the State Bar of New Mexico since 1985 and is a member of the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He is a past chair of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the State Bar of New Mexico, chair-elect for 2011, and has served on its Board of Directors since 1990. Mr. Walker is “AV” peer-review rated in the Martindale Hubbell Law Directory, is listed in Best Lawyers in America in the areas of Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights and recognized as a SuperLawyer in the areas of Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights in the SuperLawyers national corporate counsel edition and the Southwest edition.

Samuel I. Roybal joined the Albuquerque firm of Thuma, & Walker, P.C. as an associate in November of 2007.  Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Roybal’s practice concentrated on representing consumer debtors in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy, unsecured consumer and business debt collection, and liquor license laws.  Currently, Mr. Roybal practices primarily in the area of business bankruptcy, commercial litigation, real estate transaction and litigation, and small business formation and acquisition.  Mr. Roybal earned his J.D. for the University of New Mexico in 2003 where he received the Wall Street Journal Award for Achievement in Corporation and Business Law.  He earned his B.A. in Political Science from Stanford University in 1997.  Mr. Roybal is a member of the New Mexico Bar Association and the Bankruptcy Section of the New Mexico Bar.  He is admitted to practice before all state courts in the State of New Mexico State, the Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Mexico, and the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico.

Stephanie L. Schaeffer returned to Thuma & Walker, P.C. as an associate in August 2009.  She concentrates her practice in the areas of business bankruptcy law, real estate matters and commercial litigation.  She regularly represents businesses and individuals in bankruptcy cases, and represents parties in business litigation and transactions, foreclosure actions, workout negotiations, and other commercial matters.  Ms. Schaeffer was an associate with the Firm from August 2003 through October 2006.  Prior to returning to the Firm in 2009, Ms. Schaeffer served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of New Mexico.  She is a member of the New Mexico Bar Association. She is admitted to practice before all state courts in the state of New Mexico and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico.  Ms. Schaeffer received her J.D. degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2003, her M.S. in Fisheries Biology from New Mexico State University in 1999, and her B.S. in Conservation Biology from San Jose State University in 1995.  Ms. Schaeffer received the American Bankruptcy Institute Medal for Excellence in Bankruptcy Studies in 2003.
